Thailand has endured a serious insurgency problem in three of its southern provinces since 2001. Many people have been killed by shootings and bombings; the principle human targets include soldiers, policemen, teachers and monks. These incidents occur nearly every day. The main objective of the insurgency group is to separate and rule three provinces southern in Thailand. They are trying to turn their fight into a religious conflict and are attempting to widen the situation; their actions have been misunderstood in the international community, especially in the Islamic world. The Thai government know little how the insurgency is organized, who the commander is, or who supports them. The purpose of this research paper is to examine and analyze causes and effects of the ongoing insurgency. This will include the role of globalization and its effects on Thailand, the particular history of the three provinces involved in the revolt and its relationship to the causes of the insurgency, other factors that make the revolt more likely such as ethnic conflict, religion, poverty, crime, the policies of the Thai government towards the insurgency, and the chances for more effective policies in the future. This was qualitative research. Data were derived from document studies fundamental information from the academic reports, research papers, theses, orders, government policies, plans of those government offices concerned, newspapers and electronic media. Investigation shows that the problems in the three southern provinces have been growing for years. There are many factors in this growth, including the historical record of conflict, differences in race, religion and culture, the expression of identity on the part of the local populace, poverty, drugs and conflict between government officers and local residents. These problems have recently been exacerbated by continuous violence. It was concluded that; l. The success of strategies and policies will depend on the management and leadership of prime ministers. 2. A campaign should be quickly instituted such that all of society is made aware of how different races, religions and cultures express social values. If reconciliation ensues, the effects of the conflict between global capitalism and Islam can be minimized. 3. There should be a focus on participation of organizations and citizens in the area in the reconciliation process. This would give them an opportunity to participate in the process of decision making concerning policies which have decisive effects on their daily lives. 4. There should also be a focus on local expressions of perceived needs, matters deemed important and forces impinging on the lives of residents when efforts at resolution are made in view of the expression of retrograde actions in violation of the principles of reconciliation. Such attempts would bring acceptance and cooperation in their wake and in the long rum make efforts at reconciliation more effective.
