Popis: | 104 This study attempted to discuss if a collocation-based approach with the use of corpora can assist novice translation learners to deal with the difficulties that might happen to them in the process of doing Chinese to English collocational translation, and to explore how novice translation learners’ collocation competence affects their translation competence. In this research, the subjects were the freshmen from the course of Bi-directional English-Chinese Translation II, from the Department of Translation and Interpretation Studies of Chang Jung Christian University. They were assigned into the experimental and control groups. The control only had to do the pretest and the posttest. The experimental group had to do not only these two tests but also the interval test, the do/make quiz, five worksheets and a questionnaire. In the research, it was found that higher GSAT scores do not guarantee higher scores of the pretest; therefore, the subjects of the experimental and control groups were chosen based on the scores of the pretest. The subjects in the experimental group were found not only to increase test scores but also to make more progress. Therefore, translation instructors can take collocation as a translation unit and use corpora to design translation curriculums suitable for novice translation learners. |
