Application of TRIZ Theory to Enhance the Basic Concept of Green Building – A Case Study of Jiangcui Elementary School

Popis: | 103 Global warming leads to frequent climate abnormality worldwide. The energy-intensive construction industry yields high carbon dioxide production, which results in rising temperature. Buildings have long life cycles, and how to minimize the energy consumption buildings has become a topical subject in “green architecture”. The old building of Jiangcui Elementary School was renovated in 2014, thus improving the learning environment, providing a safe space for the students, and enhancing the teaching quality. The renovated building is a green building that aims at environmental protection and sustainability. The campus itself is a learning subject for the subjects. This study aims to enhance the cognition of students on the concept of green buildings. This study is an experimental teaching project, which intends to discuss the impacts of teaching mode based on the TRIZ Theory and traditional curriculum, for the topic of green buildings, on the learning effectiveness of the students. This study employed the TRIZ Theory to integrate the introduction on school buildings into the course of green building concept, and designed teaching methods to trigger the interests of students and enhance their cognition on green architecture. Teaching strategies with reference value are proposed for courses on green buildings. Based on the teaching materials design and instruction evaluation of website resources constructed under the “Project to promote the green building education” by the Architecture and Building Research Institute, Ministry of the Interior, this study collected the materials regarding the learning results of green building concept under the teaching mode based on the TRIZ Theory and the traditional teaching method. The test scores were quantified and analyzed, in order to explore the differences of the learning outcomes of the two groups. The research results are as follows: 1. The pre-test knowledge of students of the two groups showed no significant difference. After the experimental teaching, the test scores of the experimental group are better than those of the control group, indicating that the teaching mode based on the TRIZ Theory is effective in teaching green building concepts. 2. There are significant differences in learning of “connotation of green buildings”, “waste reduction evaluation indicators” and “health assessment indicators” between the two groups. The learning effect of the experimental group is better than that of the control group. 3. There is no significant difference on the learning results of “earth crisis”, “ecology assessment indicators” and “energy assessment indicators” between the two groups. However, the learning effect of the experimental group is still better than the control group. The research results verified that the teaching mode based on the TRIZ theory could effectively elevate the learning effect. Thus, the TRIZ theory could be included in the curriculum and adopted by teachers in various subjects, thus ensuring the diversity and innovation of teaching. |
