The Model of English Textbook Selection in Elementary Schools

Popis: | 103 The study was integrated and inducted to four major perspectives, including publishing attribute, physical attribute, instruction attribute, content attribute, and twenty selection criteria according to the results of the literature review. The questionnaire of this study, designed according to the hierarchical structure, has inquired ten experts, who include scholars from university in relevant fields, counselors of English subject in Taoyuan City, and English teachers of elementary schools in Taoyuan City. Finally, the selection criterion of English textbooks in elementary schools was developed by AHP, which was conducted to build up the relative weights of English textbook selection criteria. The findings revealed that among the four major perspectives, content attribute(0.4516)was mostly highlighted, followed by instruction attribute(0.3834), trailed by publishing attribute(0.0974)and physical attribute(0.0676). In the selection criteria of publishing attribute, its distribution of weights finds “teaching aids and resources” (0.3551) to be most important. In the selection criteria of physical attribute, its distribution of weights finds “layout and illustration” (0.4450) to be most important. In the selection criteria of instruction attribute, its distribution of weights finds “multiple assessment” (0.2180) to be most important. In the selection criteria of content attribute, its distribution of weights finds “content accuracy” (0.3141) to be most important. Among the twenty selection criteria, “content accuracy” (0.1418) got the highest priority, followed by “integration coherence” (0.0893), trailed by “practicality” (0.0870). Based on the results of the study, some suggestions are proposed to the schools, teachers and publishers, as well as future studies. |
