Ministry of Education (2013) stated that, to support women in marriage and childbirth and reassure working parents, sounder and prolonged childcare services would be in place to create favorable conditions for preschoolers’ health and growth and to alleviate financial burdens on disadvantaged families. Preschoolers in Taiwan are now on average put into childcare institutions up to 8 to 12 hours per day, which imposes problems of how to keep their interest in learning throughout the long stay in childcare institutions. It is worthwhile to study how flexible and volatile environment facilitates effective learning. Kindergarten desks and chairs in are monotonous in function and bulky in size occupying too much space. With respect to the needs of learning, both desks and chairs and storage cabinets for teaching tools are of importance. Hence, this study first explored the correlation between the preschoolers’ learning behaviors and the design of desks, chairs and storage cabinets, then integrated the class needs and the preschoolers’ learning needs into the design of desks, chairs and storage cabinets. Finally, it proposed strategies and practical plans for improvement using systemic innovative tools of TRIZ. It was found that simple flexible tools and environment contribute to the best learning outcome. Taking learning needs and interest into account, this stud reinvented the space-demanding objects including desks, chairs and storage cabinets and creatively diversified their uses and functions under the guidance of TRIZ theory. In this way, flexibility in utilizing study area did promote preschoolers’ interest in learning. It is worth mentioning that the innovative improved version of chairs had been filing application for utility model in Republic of China while the innovative improved desks and storage cabinets had already been granted utility model, both of which prove the innovative achievement of this study. Since childcare institutions are equipped with classroom furniture, learning interest of preschoolers would be effectively stimulated if every piece of furniture is arranged with flexibility. This study innovatively improved desks, chairs and storage cabinets in the hope of seeing more studies on improving designs of classroom furniture to create a sounder and more attractive study environment for preschoolers.
