Relationships among living organ donation's knowledge, attitudes, concerns, and willingness to donate in medical professionals

The living organ donation is more popular than deceased organ donation nowadays since it was developed 1970’s. The advantages of living organ donation are well evaluation before operation, that the conditions of organs are better, and well preparation for the operation. It has been became the main option for organ transplantation. The attitude of medical professionals has great influence on promoting living organ donation. However, many studies had just mentioned the knowledge and attitude of deceased organ donation of medical professionals (especially in nurse) in Taiwan. It is not so common to investigate the knowledge, attitude, concerns and willingness of living organ donation in medical professionals. Thus, this study aims to describe the knowledge, attitude, concerns and willingness of living organ donation in medical professionals. In addition, the study also to investigate the factors related to willingness of living organ donation. This study is a cross sectional study design. The study site was a regional teaching hospital in northern Taiwan. The data was collected by structure questionnaires. The method of sampling was convenience sampling. The criteria of sampling include that aged 20-65, graduated from university, and working over six momths or longer in the hospital. The sample size is expected to 375 cases. The result will served as a reference framework for policy making about the living organ donation. And it also can be as teaching material for continuous and in-service education for medical professional willingness to donation. The average of scores in knowledge domain is 6.30. The average attitude score is 48.71 and the economic concern score is 81.28. Psychological and social concerns are also in middle level. Over 65.6% of participates are willing to donate their living organ to their family, such as parents, children, and spouse.
