Popis: | 103 The compilation of life table, which is mainly used for studies in insurance and demography, is intended to better understand the current length of life expectancy in the population. The format of a life table can be subdivided as follows: 1. the cohort life table, which uses the actual mortality rate for all ages as its standard; and 2. the period life table, which uses an age-specific mortality rate for the year. As a result, there are differences in the computation and compilation of life tables. This study compares life expectancy and survival rates for these two types of life tables. The research covered 1906–2013, and used abridged life tables containing the years prior to the retrocession of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and demographic statistics for the Taiwan-Fukien district from the Statistical Department of the Ministry of the Interior as well as the demographic data from the Statistical Department of the Ministry of the Interior. The Gompertz Function (l_x=Ab^(q^x )) was used to compute the gender specific cohort life tables and the period life tables for each year for ages between 0–130 years. The cohort life tables for men (1906-1933) corresponds to the period life tables (1952-1979) with a difference of 46 years and the cohort life tables of women (1906-1933) corresponds to the period life tables (1953-1980) with a difference of 47 years. Since the mortality is expected to continually decrease in the future and cohort life tables track the life journey of the population based on the birth year as on the cohort life table, i.e. it is more suitable for the survival of an aged population in the future. In cases where period of life tables are used, it certainly underestimates the survival rate of an aged population. However, the knowledge of only a single cohort cannot be applied for all future years and more cohorts should be included to truly understand future trends. Therefore, there will be many data issues and their application will be difficult. |
