The power transformer mainly serves as the power system voltage conversion and is required to withstand the impact of prolonged high voltage, high current, sharp temperature changes and the electromagnetic force. It causes significant damages and makes a wide range of power failure whenever a fault occurs. Therefore, it becomes a very important issue that how to maintain power transformer function normally. The scope of such matter further extends even to the lifetime of power transformer and foreseeing potential hazards so as to prevent accidents in early stage. All aformentioned concerns strongly depend on the good maintenance and efficient diagnostic tests. In all diagnostic tests the insulation resistance test is critical because the majority of transformer faults are caused by its insulation breakdown. The insulating oil is the chief insulation medium used in transformers, which provides capabilities of insulation, heat dissipation and arc suppression. If the oil temperature constantly at a high level, it would lead to the deterioration of other insulation materials in transformer and consequently decrease the transformer lifetime directly. For this reason, the removal of the insulating oil heat is necessary. In general the transformer cooling system employs oil pumps and fans to bring down the oil temperature. It means that maintaining transformer cooling system periodically is very important.
