The Study of Modern Style TV Wall Design

| Popis: | 102 The space management of the living room should depend on the living routines of the residents. The living demands would have impacts on the setup of space. The living room is one of spaces with the most diverse atmospheres in the house. The focus of decorations in the living room is on the walls, especially the diverse TV wall in the living room. Therefore, the study attempted to discuss what kind of TV wall setup and selection can constitute the so-called modern style. There are two phases in the study. Two questionnaires were administrated in the first phase. The first questionnaire was intended to understand the style, formation, color, and material preferences of modern people on TV walls. Respondents could select their preferred style, wall formation, color, and materials. The results showed, due to the budget concerns, most people prefer wide TV wall in formation four with the cabinet underneath which constitute a simple and neat modern style with the cold tone materials. Such background design would simply display the character of the residents. The second questionnaire showed the respondents with 100 modern styled TV wall pictures recognized by designers and investigated the feelings of respondents on the style, material, color, and lightening in the pictures. The results showed, most respondents prefer single color such as white, grey, or black. The most preferred wall materials are piano varnish, masonry, and glass. While cabinet materials are mostly preferred to be piano varnish, painting, and metal. Cutoff illumination and bottom illumination are the two most popular lightening for the TV walls. In the second phase, three wall colors, materials, cabinet materials, and two lightening are mixed into 54 combinations in the questionnaire to investigate what kind of components and combination are more accommodate with the sense of modern style. The results showed, all the element combinations are considered as modern style. The three wall colors – white, grey, and black; three wall materials – piano varnish, masonry, and glass; three cabinet materials – piano varnish, painting, and metal; and two lightening - cutoff illumination and bottom illumination can be randomly combined as personal preferences. While the combination of white TV wall with glass material, piano varnished cabinet, and cutoff illumination is considered as the most modern styled. The study analyzed the formation of TV walls from four dimensions – the color, material, cabinet material, and lightening. Several preferred elements were selected through the questionnaires and it was found the random mixture can present the sense of modern style while the combination of white TV wall with glass material, piano varnished cabinet, and cutoff illumination is considered as the most modern styled. In the future, if the design of living room is modern-style orientated, it is suggested to build the wall in-width and place the cabinet underneath to extent the sense of space. The three wall colors – white, grey, and black; three wall materials – piano varnish, masonry, and glass; three cabinet materials – piano varnish, painting, and metal; and two lightening - cutoff illumination and bottom illumination can be randomly combined as personal preferences. Or use the most popular combination of white TV wall with glass material, piano varnished cabinet, and cutoff illumination to create a modern styled living room space. The study can help the designers effectively and efficiently satisfy the demands of their clients. Homeowners without professional knowledge regarding interior design can also refer to the conclusions in the study to create the TV wall with their own style.
