The study attempts to understand leisure participation and leisure constraints of the university students, and to discuss personal backgrounds and parents' leisure styles as factors on students’ leisure participation and leisure constraints. A questionnaire was distributed to undergraduate students at Soochow University. 295 valid surveys were returned and analyzed by percentage, t-test, ANOVA and Chi-Square test. The results from the study are as the following: 1. Students participate in different types of student organizations have different types of leisure participation. Students who hold a position at their student organization participate in different types of leisure activities than those who do not hold a position. 2. Students with different leisure experiences prior to college participate in different types of leisure activities in college. The skills participants learned (e.g., basketball, musical instruments) prior to college have typically become their interests and leisure activities in college. 3. Results show that students with higher intrapersonal constraints tend to participate in entertainment and social activities (e.g., facebook, Internet Relay Chat), and are not likely to do outdoor activities and physical sports.
