Whether Repetitive Negative Thinking and Acceptance Coping as Mediators Between Social Safeness and Social Anxiety

Popis: | 102 Social anxiety disorder is a common anxiety disorder. Moreover, feeling anxious about social interactive situation are common experiences among general population. Furthermore, approach-avoidance conflict of interpersonal behavior is an important feature that characterizes socially anxious individuals. Since social anxiety is an anxiety toward interpersonal interaction. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate etiology of social anxiety through interpersonal perspective, especially feel safe about social interaction, namely “social safeness”. However, past researches didn’t explore the mechanism between social safeness and social anxiety. Therefore, the purpose of the study is investigating the role of social safeness in social anxiety etiology, and possible mediators between social safeness and social anxiety, through interpersonal perspective. Past researches repeatedly pointed out that repetitive negative thinking and active acceptance coping were important factors for generate social anxiety disorder. Therefore, the study aimed to investigate whether relationships between social safeness and social anxiety were mediated by repetitive negative thinking and active acceptance coping, respectively. The study adopted cross-sectional design. The analyses follow Baron and Kenny (1986) mediator analysis procedures. The eligible sample included 204 undergraduates. The results showed that: Social safeness can significantly predict social anxiety, in addition, “repetitive negative thinking” and “active acceptance coping” are mediators between social safeness and social anxiety, respectively. These results can improve knowledge of the mechanisms of social safeness and social anxiety. It also contributes the preventive and treatment plans of social anxiety. |
