Efficient Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells Using Porphyrin-Based Dyes Covering the Near-IR Regions

Due to their large molar absorption coefficients, porphyrin-based dyes provide great improvement to the photocurrents of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSCs). However, dye aggregation might lower the performance of devices. Therefore, suitable dye soaking conditions are essential. In this study, a series of porphyrin-based dyes (LWP series) with absorption spectra covering near-IR regions were used in the fabrication of DSSCs. Different dye soaking/washing processes were adopted to lessen dye aggregation and thus to optimize performance of devices. The device performances of DSSCs using porphyrin dyes were further enhanced with co-sensitization. All devices were also characterized by impedance spectroscopy to study effects of dye soaking processes.
