A Study of Life Stress Rural-Urban differences on Fifth and Sixth Grade Elementary School Students in Taoyuan

Popis: | 102 This research aims at exploring the life stress differences of the higher grades elementary school students in urban and rural areas. The surveys subjects are grade 5 & 6 elementary students in Taoyuan City, Taoyuan County and Fusing Township, covering valid pilot test sample on 59 students and formal effective test sample on 310 students. Literature review, questionnaires and interviews are the adopted research methods. The data of the surveyed subjects were analyzed using methods such as descriptive statistics, independent-sample mean t-test, and one-way analysis of variance. The findings are stated as follows: I.The stresses of the elementary school students in sequence are environments, the school, self-development, peers and family. II.Students in different school districts showed significant difference in terms of the school, environments and family. III.Elementary school students in rural areas feel greater stress in terms of the school and family than the elementary students in urban areas do. IV.Elementary school students in urban areas feel greater stress in terms of environments than the students in rural areas do. V.For elementary students of different genders, girls feel greater stress from environments than boys do. VI.Elementary school students with 4 siblings or above feel greater family stress than elementary students with one sibling do. VII.The stresses of the elementary school students in urban areas in sequence are environments, the school, peers, self-development, and family. VIII.The stresses of the elementary school students in rural areas in sequence are environments, the school, self-development, peers and family. IX.For elementary students in urban areas, boys feel greater stress than girls do in terms of family stress; 5th graders feel greater stress than 6th graders in terms of environmental stress. X.For elementary students in rural areas, boys feel greater stress than girls do in terms of peer stress; girls feel greater stress than boys in terms of environmental stress. Finally, the researcher based on the research findings proposes various recommendations to schools, teachers, parents and on future research. |
