Popis: | 102 This research aims to explore the occupational stressors with different demographic backgrounds. The questionnaire survey method has been conducted. Based on purposive sampling, there are 90 foreign teachers within Taipei city, new Taipei city and Keelung city involved in this research (response rate 100%). The results show the major occupational stressors are ‘no pay during summer vacation/ winter vacation pupils’ lack of motivation for learning, Individual pupils who continually misbehave, constant monitoring of pupils’ behaviors, and pupils who show a lack of interest. Based on the principle component analysis, there were 8 dimensions with sharing 62.97% variance and based on the dimension with single item average from high to low: (1) behavior/learning guidance, (2) improper school system, (3) heavy workload (4) teachers’ professional development (5) assisting pupils with low learning ability (6) extra teaching needs (7) colleague/parents interactions (8) professional teaching needs. Furthermore, it shows female teachers perceive significantly higher stress than male teachers on ‘parents’ questions about teachers’ ability’ and the elder teachers perceive significantly higher stress than young and middle-aged teachers on ‘school system’. Hence, increasing pupils’ behavior/learning guidance techniques and improving school system (e.g. no salary during vacations) can reduce the level of occupational stress and promote the English teaching effectiveness.
