A Study of Teachers' Professional Competencies and Levels in Teaching Popular Science Camp for Children

Popis: | 102 The purpose of this study was to investigate teachers’ professional competencies in teaching popular science camp for children, and development the rating system. In this qualitative study, subjects were 9 experts include NPO executives and teachers, school teachers and industry managers. Researcher used document analysis to integrate literatures recent years about profession competence indicators, and build the construct of professional competence domains and dimensions. Then, developed interview framework and conducted semi-structured interview. After that, transcribed verbatim and used constant-comparison method to analyze thereby establishing competencies and levels of children science popularization camp teachers. The following conclusions are obtained and listed below: 1.Teachers’ professional competencies in teaching popular science camp for children could divided 4 domains, 10 dimensions, and 40 competencies. 2.Teachers’ professional levels in teaching popular science camp for children could divided “Counselor”, “Assistant teacher”, “Expert teacher”, “Executive”. And each levels have their own professional competencies. 3.No matter what levels are emphasis on “personal characteristics and professional attitude”. According to research results, suggestions are made towards develop teacher certification model, study methods and content in teaching popular science camp for children as references for future researches.
