Morphological Awareness, Phonological Awareness and Chinese Character Recognition

After applying the nursery rhymes to the metalinguistic game, the obvious improvement in phonological awareness, morphological awareness and literacy ability for the kindergarten children was found in this study. In this paper, the experimental participants are fifty four kindergarten children from one kindergarten with the majority of low SES family. And they are randomly selected into three groups which are morphological group, phonological group and control group. Metalinguistic games were implemented in the two experimental groups and the pre-test and post-test were conducted before and after the intervention respectively, for the two experimental groups. The findings of this study are as follows: 1.) There is no difference in the pre-tests of phonological awareness, morphological awareness and Chinese character recognition among the three groups. 2.) Morphological group demonstrated obvious effects on morpheme awareness, morphological construction and Chinese character recognition. 3.) Phonological group demonstrated obvious effects on the phonological awareness.
