| Popis: | 102 Penghu’s stone wall garden located in Pescadores is the local cultural landscape. Hundreds of years ago, in order to withstand the northeast monsoon, the ancestors make use of the coral stone, the basalt, and the other local building materials to build Penghu’s stone wall garden for the agricultural production. Penghu’s stone wall garden falls into disuse for many reasons. For one thing, because the ocean shipping, and air transportation network are developed quickly today, the daily necessities are mostly imported from other places. For another, the agriculture is gradually declining because young people leave their hometown. Stone wall garden is the precious cultural heritage in the pioneering history of Penghu. In order to preserve the culture of stone wall garden, this study aims to explore the following three items including the cultural development of stone wall garden, the architectural forms and evolution of stone wall garden as well as the relationship between stone wall garden crops and livelihoods in Penghu. In order to reserve the agriculture and culture in Penghu, this study also attempts to explore how to activate and reuse stone wall garden. In this study, the qualitative research is conducted through literature collection, participant observation, interview, and field observation. Most of the previous literature reviews about stone wall garden aim to explore the architectural forms. However, this study attempts to discover the rich agricultural knowledge of stone wall garden. It hopes that the culture of stone wall garden in Penghu can be recorded through participant observation in various items in this study. The study also attempts to explore the possibilities of the lasting development of the culture of stone wall garden by combining the elements of the tourism, organic agriculture and education.
