Studies of the electro-optics characteristics of the novel modes of normally black reflective LCDs

In this study we make use of the vertical alignment structure to replace the twisted nematic structure in the mixed-mode twisted nematic structure for creating the reflective liquid crystal display of having high contrast ratio of the VA advantage. We produce two new reflective liquid crystal display components, which one side use vertical alignment, the other side use mixed polyimide and poured into the negative type liquid crystal MJ-961213 (Δε&;lt; 0), then variety of experiments designed to measure and observe electro-optics characteristics of the new components. Finally, comparing the new elements and the traditional MTN elements, the new element is proved superior to the traditional MTN components. In the laboratory production of traditional MTN (quarter-waveplate prepositive type ) element contrast ratio is 10.68, but with the first component in this study, it can be reach 379.51, which is more than traditional MTN elements approx 35 times increased in the contrast. The traditional MTN (quarter-waveplate backward type ) element contrast ratio is 23.28, but with the second component in this study, it can be reach 399.59, which is more than traditional MTN elements approx 17 times increased in the contrast. According to the experimental results, the components in this study with its contrast are better than traditional MTN components.
