Popis: | 102 There are different views about identifying the term ‘gifted’. The most recent development regarding gifted education has emphasized on promoting the development of abilities. However, in Taiwan, the idea of ‘Credentialism’ has dominated the gifted education, which focus on obtaining good grades and entering top schools. Therefore the life adjustment of gifted students will become an important issue which needs more in-depth research. The aim of this study is to investigate how these gifted students view their experiences about being ‘labeled’. Four participants were interviewed, who have been labeled as gifted either in primary or secondary education, and their experiences were analyzed by using the phenomenological method. The results of this study discover a general structure about being labeled gifted which is called the ‘competitors’ structure’. The ‘competitors’ structure’ as is follows: 1. The ‘Gifted label’ makes a distinction in the life world between the ‘gifted place’ and the ‘non-gifted place’. 2. For gifted students, gifted label is hard to abandoned and sinking into the ‘competitors’ structure’. 3. The ‘Gifted label’ limits the relationship between the gifted and the authorities. 4. The ‘Gifted label’ limits the gifted to form ‘ordinary’ social relationships. Fortunately, gifted students can help themselves to escape from this ‘competitors’ structure’ by cultivating their interests and develop them, and participating in some activities to establish social relationships. Discussions based on the study results are included and specific suggestions are provided for future research and practitioners. |
