The purpose of this study was to investigate the problems with which the parents were confronted and the strategies they took to manage the problems at the three stages of the cochlea implantation process. The three stages were before, after the surgery of cochlea implantation and during the rehabilitation after the cochlea implantation. Semi-structured interview of the qualitative research methods was implemented in this study. Primary caregivers experiencing the complete three stages of the cochlea implants were invited to participate in this study. The parents’ perceptions of the Cochlea implant process were summarized through the coding analysis process. The findings of this study were in the following 1.The parents’ concerns of whether their child should take the cochlea implantation could be classified as personal factor, the elders’ factor, financial factor, assistive technology factor, and the risks of invasive surgery. The parents’ coping strategies included enlisting support from their elders by keeping discussing and communicating with them, and seeking a variety of sources of funding to manage the financial problems. Following the professionals’ suggestions, parents’ experience sharing of successful cases, ineffectiveness of the traditional hearing aids, and beliefs in the effectiveness of cochlea implants were reasons summarized to attribute to parents’ final decision on their child’s cochlea implantation. 2.The problems with which the parents confronted after their child’s cochlea implantation surgery were discussed based on the care during and after the surgery as well as the application of assistive technology afterwards. Parents’ care after the cochlea implantation included wound care and children’s emotional management. The application of assistive technology included parents’ seeking for professional intervention and teaching their child the important concepts of using assistive technology. 3.The problems with which the parents confronted during the rehabilitation stage of their child’s cochlea implantation included the client’s performance, the expectation of their elders, the collaboration with the therapist, and sources of intervention. The parents took corresponding strategies to manage the problems. Finally, specific suggestions were made based on the results of this analysis for the parents whose child had cochlea implantation, medical centers, government, and future researchers.
