Syntheses and characterization of Pyrrolyl Organic Receptors for Anions

For the preparation of organic receptors for specific anions, we successfully synthesized three ligands (L5,L6, L8) containing pyrrolyl and amino functionalities. L5with three pyrrolyl groups can be converted to protonated L6, [HL6]+, in the presence of acids and pyrrolylaldehyde. Cation [HL6]+with four pyrrolyl groups is able to selectively capture HSO4and SO42anions as precipitates in ethanol. In addition, protonatedL5can selectively form precipitates with HSO4and H2PO4anions in ethanol. Interestingly, the protonated L8with two pyrrolyl groups selected to precipitate H2PO4anions with high fidelity in ethanol. All complexes mentioned above were characterized by NMR, EA, and X-ray analyses.
