The goal of this research is to understand when Petanque players throw ball in squatting position, will the upper body movement patterns be different by different throwing distances. Through kinematic analysis we can make concrete suggestions to improve the Petanque throwing accuracy. Eight outstanding Petanque players participated in the experiment. They would perform Petanque accurate throwing in squatting position. We collected three times effective data on certain accuracy in three different throwing distances for every player. Use three-dimensional motion capturing system to collect and analyze the parameters in the upper limb joint. It was found that during the backswing action period, the initial angle and end angle of player’s shoulder showed significant differences at different distances. In throwing ball period, the maximum angular velocity of the shoulder showed significant differences, too. through Scheffe’s method to do multiple comparisons, we have the conclusion that during the backswing action period, the initial shoulder joint angle and end shoulder joint angle are both larger in 8 meters distance than 6 meters distance. In the throwing action period, the maximum angular velocity of the shoulder were 8> 7> 6 meters. Therefore, we recommend people who would like to enhance positioning throwing technique should focus on the usage of shoulder joint for both backswing period and throwing ball period in long distance. The usage of elbow and wrist joint is not affected by throwing distance.
