The accuracy of system model is crucial for the control design. System identification theory is one of ways for obtaining the system model. In this thesis, we consider identification of the model of a linear motor and control design of current, speed and position loops. Based on the least squares method, the motor parameters are identified. However the identified model is used for PI controller design to achieve a good performance. The effectiveness of the control system is validated through simulation and experimental studies.
