In the recent years, the academia has a great number of periodicals about the tea culture, inclusive of the tea competition. While there are many periodicals related to the topic -tea competition, the rise and fall of tea competition and tea bowl as well as the social culture reflected by the tea competition still scratch the surface. While some think tea competition originates from the Song Dynasty, others consider it is rooted from the mid-Tang Dynasty. As for the origin, it remains a hotly debated topic which should be clarified. Besides, some regard the weakness of the North-Song Dynasty as the main reason for the popularity of tea competition. On the other hand, others consider the prosperity of the North-Song Dynasty as the perfect timing of developing tea competition. The two seem to have conflicts first. Later, what is the influence come after the rise of tea competition? Hence, the purposes of the journal are as follows: to clarify the origin of the tea competition in the North-Song Dynasty, the reason of its popularity, the sense of taste and skill, and the rise and fall of tea bowl. By analyzing these related questions, I hope I can show the reality of tea competition of the North-Song Dynasty. In Ju Yi Bai’s 〈夜聞賈常州、崔湖州茶山境會歡宴詩〉 the tea competition appears, but the poem doesn’t use the term of tea competition yet.Ning He, forms a tea group, in which they compete with each other, with people from other Dynasties. Lin Su has written detailed descriptions of pour tea in his work. The fact shows that pour tea has already appeared in either mid-Tang Dynasty or 五代. The theory has overturned the concept that pour tea start from Song Dynasty. After the new tea made in every spring, tea competition is carried out in the way of pouring tea. It is the competition that shows the strength and weakness of new tea. Tea competition of the North-Song Dynasty closely relates to the current social culture in which both officials and common people can participate. Also, the activity reflects the life of the citizens at that time. The journal focus on the study of the North-Song Dynasty, and the methods I use in the study are references research, chart contrastive analysis, and comparison. My study is based on references existed, and discuss the tea competition in social background, anthology, and paintings. The research is focus on the tea activity before the North-Song Dynasty and the analysis of tea competition. Therefore, there is little mention about the development of the tea competition after the North-Song Dynasty in my journal, but I will make continuous efforts in the near future.
