This thesis proposes a concept of phylogenetic tree (aka evolutionary tree, a concept that originated from biology) to the innovative integrated new product development process in market positioning, concept generation and portfolio recommendation. Innovation comes with great reward but is also highly risky, and a company must find a way to position the market, find the target user and employee the user scenario experience design method to assess all the user requirements so the product concept may meet or even exceed the user expectation. The concept of phylogenetic tree may provide multiple uses. In market positioning, it helps the company evaluate market positions through the “field of use” instead of the traditional pricing strategy. In concept generation, it helps the product development team exhibit comprehensively the black box of product concepts and decision process to allow retracing, reexamination, and recombination. In portfolio recommendation, it helps exhibit all product potentials for the company to select one that may allow early profit generation. The phylogenetic tree provides a means for companies to view their customers correctly. In this thesis, an experimental workshop was held and the results were evaluated by the experts to validate the performance of this new method.
