The popularity of smartphones has thoroughly changed the consumers’ perception on the handsets. For most smartphone owners, the phone call is even just an additional features , many people are enjoying their lives by using smartphones for various solutions such as high speed railway tickets ordering, coffee buying, latest information reception, price tags scanning for comparison, local specialty shops searches, multimedia content viewing and interaction with favorite brands through the apps. They can also use voice control, positioning and mobile commerce services to do many for the real- life convenience. With the gradual advancement in smartphone features , which include large -screens , high-speed Internet access, and multiple applications ,smartphone shopping is becoming the future trend. Although only one out of two people Taiwan possess smart phone, the penetration rate of smartphones being used for shopping is still in the growth stage and Taiwan''s mobile commerce market is still a huge untapped blue ocean. The high-growth trend of the mobile commerce market as predicted , has caught the attention of online shopping operators in Taiwan, therefore, an analysis is made on the “factors affecting the use of smartphones by consumers for shopping” in order to provide suggestions on how to increase the consumers'' willingness for mobile shopping to Taiwan''s online shopping industry. This study uses the questionnaire to conduct the “survey on the willingness for mobile shopping” coupled with the foreign consumers'' mobile shopping cases and makes analysis based on both the theories and actual phenomena. The study results show that the major factor discouraging consumers from using smart phones for shopping is the lack of the on-line shopping environment dedicated to the smart devices. Therefore, the improvement of connection speed and quality is an imminent task. The slow development of Taiwan''s mobile devices network has hampered the growth of mobile commerce development. The secondary factors include trading security consideration and poor user experiences. The improvement in the aforesaid issues is expected to increase consumers’ willingness in using smartphones for shopping to bring about a whole new business horizon for the on-line shopping operators in Taiwan.
