Popis: | 102 English as a tool of communication has been playing an important part for collecting worldwide information and carrying out international exchange and cooperation. While some learners learn English for integrative reasons, others may learn it for instrumental purposes. Many individuals learn English because they have urgent needs to apply the target language in their workplace or daily lives; they want to use the language outside the classrooms in an authentic context. To achieve this goal, many studies have shown that Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) might be the answer to their needs. One practical foundation of CLT aims to prepare learners to use the language they learn in the world outside the classrooms. Nevertheless, the positive beliefs about CLT often do not coincide with real effects in the classrooms. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of CLT on learners’ self efficacy, motivation, and performance, as well as the relationship between learners’ performance, motivation, and self-efficacy by using an oral test, and questionnaire survey on a total of 30 adult students who were studying in English Intermediate Conversation Classes in Language Institution in Taiwan. Results of this study indicated that the CLT course helped Taiwanese adult English learners to build their speaking ability, stimulate their learning motivation, and to boost Taiwanese adult English learners’ self-efficacy. It is suggested that this study may provide insights for teachers, educators and students who apply communicative language teaching in their teaching/learning context. |
