With the development of embedded systems and digital image processing, applications of digital image processing are more widely used in intelligent monitoring system. Among all, motion detection and tracking technology are the most widely used applications. Passive infrared sensor (PIR) is commonly used in the market that measures the change in human body temperature to sense the body movement. Although the body movement can be detected by PIR, it cannot detect whether there is anyone in the environment. Thus, this work proposes an image processing embedded system based motion detector. Some modules are also included within this detector such as Arduino, CMUcam, PIR sensor and Zigbee. In order to reduce the computation and complex operation procedures of image processing, and improve the detection effect, this work use image features to represent the image that is captured by the module of CMUcam. In this detector, the modules of CMUcam, PIR sensor and Arduino are used to detect and calculate the information of the environment such as body movement and existence. Then, the module of Zigbee is used to transmit the information of the environment to the PC. In addition, the architecture of multiple detectors this work proposed that could be used to detect the environment and cover all areas. Finally, the experimental results show that the proposed detector can effectively and accurately detect the environment. This work with the ability can effectively to reduce the hardware costs and improve the detector correctness.
