Bob Chilcott (1955- ) is a famous choral composer and conductor of the days. He has sung in “The King's Singers” as a tenor for 12 years. After leaving from The King’s Singers, Chilcott gave all part of his time and resources to choral conducting and composition and made every endeavor to promote choral music since 1997. Then, he composed many famous choral songs in recent years. Moreover, the choral pieces, Jazz Folk Songs for Choirs, were completed in 2008. Jazz Folk Songs for Choirs are chorus songs for mixed chorus, which include nine choral songs. The traditional folk songs from different seven countries were chosen as foundations of the creation and adapted by jazz harmony and rhythm. In this thesis, five pieces of choral songs from Jazz Folk Songs for Choirs are mainly investigated as templates. There are five chapters in this thesis. The first chapter is the brief introduction. The second chapter is the background review of this work including three sessions. The first session is the introduction of Chilcott’s biology, the second session is the thorough inquiry of folk songs and the third session is the development of Jazz music. The third chapter is the introduction and discussion of musical analysis and reaches of five selected pieces of choral songs from Jazz Folk Songs for Choirs. Then, the forth chapter is the processes of conducting and annotation skills of five selected folk choral songs above-mentioned. Finally, the fifth chapter is the conclusion of this thesis, which is integrated with each preceding chapter. Then, reach results and the review of this thesis would be summarized and shown in this chapter. Moreover, all pieces completed by Chilcott, which has been published already, would be also listed in the appendix.
