A Study of the Impacts of Concurrent Work on Teachers' Work-Family Conflict and Quality of Working Life: An Example of Taoyuan Elementary School Teachers

The objects of this study is to understand the impacts of concurrent work on teachers' Work-Family Conflict and Quality of Working Life, and to analyze the potential impacting factors of work-family conflict and quality of working life. This study used questionnaire to collect data, and took the sample of 466 teachers who have concurrent work from 37 elementary schools in Taoyuan County. 380 effective sample questionnaires are collected ( 81.55% of return rate). The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson product-moment correlation, and hierarchical regression analysis. The conclusions are as follows: The situation of work- family conflict among teachers in Taoyuan elementary schools can be classified as the medium level, and the situation of subject work-to-family conflict can be classified as above the family-to-work conflict. Holding a concurrent work for teachers makes significant differences in work-family conflict. The potential impacting factors of work-family conflict among teachers are concurrent work, gender, the age of the youngest child, working period, and school size. In addition, Taoyuan elementary teachers’ quality of working life is above medium, and the highest average is “Social Relationship”, and “Salary Welfare” is the lowest. Holding a concurrent work for teachers makes significant differences in “Quality of Working Life”. The impacting factors of “Quality of Working Life” are concurrent work, age, working period, and school size. There is negative correlation between “Work- Family Conflict” and “Quality of Working Life”. Concurrent work have interference on work-family conflict and quality of working life. Finally, based on the conclusions of this study, some suggestions are advanced to the school’s administrative chiefs and future reasearchers.
