A Study of Garbage Reduction and Tourist Garbage Sorting Result of Nantou County

| Popis: | 102 This study focus on the assessment of garbage reduction performance and garbage sorting result of Nantou County’s tourist areas. During 2006 to 2012, Nantou County generated the largest amount of kitchen waste among general waste each year. Therefore, Nantou County has the opportunity to strengthen the implementation of recycling kitchen waste and reduce the amount of kitchen waste generated. The overall garbage misplacement from general trash bin to recycle bin was accounted for 69.87%. Among this misplacement, the food waste was the most commonly misplaced type. In the general trash bin, an average of 24.49% recycling material was found. In this category, non-paper recyclable waste was the most commonly misplaced material. Therefore, the garbage sorting performance in the tourist areas of Nantou County was poor. The calculation of maximum garbage recycling rate of Nantou County was done by two methods, namely method A and method B. In method A, the amount of collected non-household waste and in method B the amount of collected kitchen waste was not included in the calculation. The maximum garbage recycling rate calculated by method A was 43.99%, whereas calculated by method B was 56.45%. Thus, the garbage reduction performance of Nantou County can be greatly improved by not collecting the non-houshold waste and kitchen waste. |
