The Relationships among the Personality Traits, Health Risk Behaviors, and Mental-Physical Health for Senior High and Vocational School Students in Taoyuan County

Popis: | 102 The purpose of this study was to understand the current state of health risk behaviors, and mental and physical health of senior and vocational high school students in Taoyuan county, and to explore the relationships among those variables. The research method was questionnaire survey. The subjects were 635 students. The statistical analyses included descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, multiple regression analysis, and structural equation modeling. The results were listed as follows: 1. The students’ health risk behaviors showed medium or low degree. 2. The students’mental and physical health was at a high intermediate level. 3. Thesignificant differences of health risk behaviors were found among students with varying background variables such as sex, grade, school system, academic achievements, and socioeconomic status. 4. The significant differences of mental and physical health were found between male and female students. 5. There was positive correlation between neuroticism and health risk behaviors, and negative correlation between openness, agreeableness and conscientiousness and health risk behaviors. There was significant negative correlation between extraversion and health risk behaviors. 6. There was significant negative correlation between neuroticism and mental/physical health. There was significant negative correlation between conscientiousness and mental/physical health. 7. Personality traits and health risk behaviors can predict significantly mental/physical health. 8. Health risk behaviors was the intervening variable between personality traits and mental /physical health. |
