On March 23, 1981, Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee, which is responsible for Olympic Games signed an agreement with International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, Switzerland to begin the term "Chinese Taipei" used in the Olympics and various international sports competitions. Besides the aspect of sports, the term "Chinese Taipei" has gradually expanded to other international organizations, such as: APEC and the WTO. The term "Chinese Taipei" reflects the controversy at "one China" representation issue with PROC. People's Republic of China referred to the Republic of China as “Chinese Taipei”, which is translated into“中國台北”, but also acquiesced Taiwan translated into "中華台北". Apparently, the term "Chinese Taipei" is the consensus of two sides, especially when mutual trust is gradually established after several cross-strait talks, "Chinese Taipei" has become an important term of Taiwan used in participation in international organizations. Therefore Taiwan is no longer excluded from international stage, which benefits our country with larger space in international activities. Baseball has been the most influential sports in Taiwan, and is also well-known in the world. A number of players trained in foreign, and closely interact with other country with good baseball team. In the World Baseball Classic tournament, although we join the tournament in terms of "Chinese Taipei baseball team" under China’s pressure, but the controversy at "Chinese Taipei" flag is contrarily relived in the World Baseball Classic tournament. From President Lee, President Ma to President Chen’s cross-strait policy can be unveil their attitude toward China swing to and fro the "reunification - independence - reunification ", therefore the interact between Taiwan and China is also from deterioration to gradually amelioration, which affected Taiwan's term "Chinese Taipei" used in Olympic games. From2013, there has been significant progress in cross-strait relations, and China relieve its restrictions on Taiwan’s participation in international activities. Furthermore, our baseball team has a strong soft power, as well as the enthusiastic fans for the national baseball games, which makes the 2013 World Baseball Classic is no longer confined in term os "Chinese Taipei". Taiwan has strong soft power in international sports, and is promising on the international stage. With our baseball players trained in foreign such as Wang, Kuo, Chen Weiyin, Yang Dai steel, which raise awareness worldwide, and parallel with this year's rejuvenation of Baseball League in Taiwan, Taiwan rekindle the baseball fever, which contribute to not only enhance the strength of baseball, but also claim our position in international status.
