According to the statistics from the Department of Commerce in the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the number of registered publishers has reached 14,000. Because of the narrow and small land in Taiwan and its dense population, the domestic demand in Taiwan is relatively low. Publishers in Taiwan are now in a saturation stage. Since most upstream, midstream, and downstream companies are either medium-sized or small-sized, the competition among them is quite drastic. For years, however, the number of readers has been declining, which leads to a great impact on all publishers. This study will use children’s book publishers as a case study to explore how publishers will persist in the essence and maintain competitiveness to face the depression in small markets when confronting intense competition.First of all, this study will analyze the operating environment and current situation of the whole publishing industry, probe into the problems publishers face, and then thoroughly analyze a case study of a Children’s book publishers company. Meanwhile, with the competition environment analysis by SWOT, this study will find out the advantages and disadvantages in the inner conditions of the company as well as the opportunities and threats in the outer circumstances. A last, this study will analyze the developing strategies from the practical operation of the company. By means of comprehensive comparison and analysis, we will know what the problems of the company are. Based on the results of analysis, This study will make suggestions to the company and government to solve the problems. This study hope the company will run as smoothly as possible by offering it more competitive operating strategies.
