Glucose biosensor based on CMCS-Fe3O4 nanocomposite modified electrode

Fe3O4 nanoparticles was synthesized successfully via coprecipitation method and CMCS-Fe3O4 nanocomposite was prepared by taking Fe3O4 was dispersed well in solution of carboxymethyl chitosan. An amperometric glucose biosensor was successfully constructed by simply drop-coating CMCS-Fe3O4 nanocomposite and ferricyanide (as a mediator) onto screen-printed electrodes (SPCEs), and then layering-on glucose oxidase (GOD). Results show that CMCS-Fe3O4-modified electrode couldn''t enhance well the response current of glucose biosensor because of high viscocity and molecule-weight of CMCS. Therefore, we degraded CMCS to low molecule-weight (LMCMCS). And LMCMCS-Fe3O4 nanocomposite was prepared and modified on SPCEs, then successfully enhanced the response current of glucose biosensor better, because of its better way of electron transfer, high electroactive surface area, hydrophilicity and biocompatibility. The sensitivity of the resulting biosensor for glucose was ca. 0.562 μA/mM with a wide linearity up to ~33mM and the lower detection limit of about 1.13 mM.
