Popis: | 101 Translational medicine has turned out to be an important model for cancers, neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders due to several medical challenges in the 21st century. Psycho-oncology is an expanding field that addresses the psychological response to cancer care. The goal of this psycho-oncological research is to investigate the correlation among emotional distress, immunity and cancer via translational medicine. Three topics were involved in this dissertation: (1) the epidemiology of depression in cancer patients; (2) the immunity and biomedical imaging in animal models; and (3) the establishment of the animal models for translational medicine in psycho-oncology. For the first topic, outpatients with different cancer types were enrolled. The Demoralization Scale Mandarin Version (DS-MV), Patient Health Questionnaire, Beck Hopelessness Scale, and McGill Quality of Life Questionnaire- Taiwan Version were used as the tools. All data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0. Secondly, CT26/luc colon carcinoma-bearing mouse model was used. To investigate the tumor growth inhibition effect by mirtazapine, an antidepressant, the expression of tumor necrosis factor- (TNF-α) in the blood circulation and tumor tissues, the immunohistostaining (IHS) of infiltrating CD4+ and CD8+ T cells in the tumor tissues of animals treated with mirtazapine, the effects of mirtazapine on indolamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO), and mirtazapine on immunodeficient SCID mice bearing CT26/luc tumors were assayed. Thirdly, to our knowledge, the correlation among the spectrum of emotional distress, the immune modulation, and the antidepressant in tumor-bearing animal model was postulated for the first time. In conclusion, a new era for psycho-oncology should be a bi-directional translational medicine, from bench-top to clinic and vice versa, covering clinical finding, epidemiology, and immunology as well as tumor biology. In the near future, psycho-oncology may play an important role for the better control of the cancer. |
