Multi-nuclear copper (II) complexes with an aminotriazine-derived dipridyl ligand: syntheses, structures, and properties

This work constains three parts. In the first part, three complexes, {[Cu6(H2L)2Br4(DMF)2(N3)8]} (1), {[Cu6(H2L)2(DMF)2(N3)12]} (2), and {[Cu3(H2L)(Cl)2(N3)4(DMF)]} (3) have been synthesized from the reactions of sodium azide, N2,N2-dibenzyl-N4,N6-bis((pyridin-2-yl)methyl) -1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triamine (H2L) and Cu(II) ions with difference of anion environments. Complexes 1-3 contain a linear trinuclear cupper(II) building unit [Cu3(N3)4]2+. Complexes 1 and 3 adopt a Cu6 cluster structure forming from two Cu3 units bridged by azido and bromo linker, respectively. In the second part, three complexes, {[Cu4(HL)2(NO3)2(N3)4(C0.64H2.28OH)2]•2.72CH3OH} (4), {[Cu6(HL)2(OAc)4(N3)6]•2Et2O} (5), and {[Cu4O(H2L)2(SO4)2(N3)2]•2CH3OH} (6) have been synthesized from the reactions of sodium azide and H2L with Cu(NO3)2•3H2O, Cu(OAc)2•H2O, and CuSO4•5H2O, respectively. Complex 4 contains a linear tetranuclear cupper(II) building unit, [Cu4(N3)4]4+, bridged by four EO-N3. The Cu4 unit are further linked by HL into a 1-D structure. Complex 5 contains a linear trinuclear cupper(II) building unit, [Cu3(OAc)2(N3)3]+, with mixed bridging ligand of μ-EO-N3 and μ-acetate. In complex 6, each copper(II) ions are linked by azide, sulfate and μ4-O2- to form a tetranuclear copper cluster, [Cu4O(SO4)2(N3)2]. In the third part, complex {[Cu8O2(HL)4(SO4)3(OH)2]•11CH3OH}n (7) have been synthesized from the reactions of H2L with CuSO4•5H2O. Complex 7, contains octanuclear Cu(II) cluster [Cu8O2(SO4)3(OH)2]4+, core structure bridged by a μ4-O2-, a μ2-OH-. In complex 7, two coordination modes of HL, μ2-HL-κ3-N,N';N'' and μ2-HL-κ4-N,N';N'',N''' are obtained. All the complexes and polymers were used X-ray crystallography determination, and investigate the magnetic properties.
