A Study on the Relationships Among Seventh Graders' English Reading Comprehension, Learning Motivation and Academic Achievements through Mind Mapping

Popis: | 101 This research aims to explore the effects of the mind mapping teaching strategies on English reading comprehension, learning motivation, and academic achievements of 7th graders. The study adopted the pre-post test nonequivalent quasi-experimental design of accurate experimental methodology and targets two classes of seventh-grade students from G junior high school in Hualien County, which includes an experimental group and a control group. All participants took a pretest and a posttest. Collected data were put through quantification statistics using ANCOVA to examine the effects on students’ English reading comprehensive ability,learning motivation and achievement tests. According to the results of the research, the major findings of the study were as follows. 1. No significant difference was found on the English reading comprehension test between the experimental group and the control group. 2. No significant difference was found on the English learning motivation scale between the experimental group and the control group. 3.The experimental group performed better on the English achievement test than the control group and had reached a significant difference. 4.Most students have a positive attitude towards the Mind Mapping teaching strategy program and believe it can help them summarize and organize knowledge, inspire their interest in learning English, and are willing to apply mind mapping teaching strategies in other subjects. 5.Girls showed higher performance than boys in their mind mapping works, and the students with high academic achievement put more emphases on personal characteristics in their works. |
