The purposes of this study are to design a short-term non-judging awareness training, which includes examples of learning, learning goals and metacognitive strategies, and to examine the influence of the short-term non-judging awareness training on emotion. In this study, 80 participants were randomly allocated to three training groups and one control group. The three training groups were the targeted non-judging awareness group, the exposure group, and the meditation group. All the three training groups were trained for one hour. The targeted non-judging awareness group was trained by using negative pictures as learning examples of non-judging awareness; the exposure group was trained by showing negative pictures to participants; and the meditation group was trained by asking participants to meditate. The control group did not receive any experimental treatment. After the training, Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS) was applied to measure participant’s positive and negative emotional state; Tobii X120 Eye Tracker was used to measure participant’s time to first fixation, first fixation duration, total fixation time, and fixation count; and Biofeedback Instrument was applied to measure, participant’s EMG, BVP, and GSR. Results showed that negative emotions of the targeted non-judging awareness group were reduced when facing negative situations. In addition, the meditation group showed higher EMG than that of the control group when facing negative situations. In summary, the results support that a short-term non-judging awareness training, which includes examples of learning, learning goals and metacognitive strategies, might reduce negative emotions.
