This study aimed at developing a learning community climate inventory of classroom at elementary schools, and accordingly conducted the inventory survey, hence to understand whether the perception of the atmosphere of classroom’s learning community differs in accordance of different backgrounds of elementary school students. Based on research objectives, the researcher formed the scale assessment framework and prepared scale questions based on related researches of domestic and international theory. The construction of the scale's reliability and validity was in accordance with preliminary data and pre-test through Cronbach's alpha coefficient, expert review of validity, item analysis, exploratory factor analysis, group difference analysis and group criterion-related validity. The researcher surveyed the higher grade students in public elementary schools in 101 academic year around the great Taipei area by the use of self-made scale, with a total of 1,083 valid samples obtained. The collected data was analyzed by statistical methods, such as descriptive statistics, dependent sample ANOVA, independent samples T-test, one way ANOVA and Tukey post comparison method so as to understand the present situation of atmosphere of classroom’s learning community in the great Taipei area, meanwhile, to discuss different perceptual situations about atmosphere of classroom’s learning community regarding different background variables of elementary school students. The results of this study are as follows: Ⅰ, " Learning Community Climate Inventory of Classroom at Elementary Schools " is divided into five fields of "caring", "cooperation", "discussion", "exploration" and "vision", which is of good reliability and validity. First, the structure and content of the scale: The scale is divided into five dimensions of "caring", "cooperation", "discussion", "exploration" and "vision", which adopts five-point Likert-type scale scoring method, concluding four reverse questions in a total of 41 questions. Second, the scale reliability: The total scale and each subscale’s α coefficients range from .85 - .97 (with the "cooperation" subscale α coefficient .85 and the rest higher than .90), which means that reliability of the total scale and each subscale is extended from good to excellence with high internal consistency. Third, the scale validity: This study is of good content validity, construct validity and criterion-related validity by the use of expert review of validity, item analysis, exploratory factor analysis, group difference analysis and group criterion-related validity. Ⅱ, Atmosphere of elementary classroom’s learning community in the great Taipei area is of the medium-to-upper level on the whole or on each aspect. Ⅲ, Elementary students from different backgrounds vary notably when it comes to their perception of classroom’s learning community atmosphere. First, in terms of gender difference, girls are better than boys in perceptual experience. Second, in terms of different grades, the overall perceptual experience is of no significant difference; but in the fields of "exploration" and "vision", the Grade 5 students are better than the Grade 6’s. Third, in terms of schools’ location, the perceptual experience of elementary school students is of no significant difference between Taipei and New Taipei City. Fourth, in terms of the school size, both small schools and large schools are better than medium schools in the fields of "cooperation", "discussion", "exploration" and "vision"; while in the field of "caring", large schools are better than medium schools. Fifth, in terms of the class size, the size of less than 19 (including) students is better in the atmosphere of classroom’s learning community on the whole or on each aspect. This study made specific recommendations based on literature analysis and findings for the reference of relevant units, educators and future researchers.
