The Discriminant Analysis of Regional Digital Divide on Taiwan

Currently, most of the digital divide analysises are restricted to the users’ characteristics (such as age, ethnic, and lving area) of a specific region or a small population, as well as the current status of international research spindles. The study of same area, ethnic but between the multi-year statistical analysis and comparison is hardly found. On the relatively long time, information technology and capabilities of the residents might have improved or not, the question has been failed to effectively issue. In this study, we use "Personal Digital Divide survey of households' survey data on the year of 99, 100 and 101, which conducted by Reseach, Development and Evaluation Commision, Exective Yuan of Taiwan, as secondary data to explore multi-year inter-regional differences of the digital divide. According to indictors of the questionnaire, this study builds the longitudiual analysis of digital divide focus on the case of New Taipei City. According to data analysis findings, the study concluded discovered 99 years, 100 years and 101 years, the respondents demographic variables, such as age, education level, average household income, area of residence, both on the regional digital divide have a direct impact resistance, no matter of 99, 100 or 101 year. However, we could not find the factor of gender on the digital divide exist any difference. The study also found that, although non-rural areas, New Taipei City has plenty of information on the device, but the lack of basic information on education; comparatively, the rural areas in New Taipei City, in addition to the lack of information equipment, the information on basic education and government to reduce the digital divide program support is also clearly insufficient.
