A Study of Correlation between Servant Leadership and Retention - Job Satisfaction as a Mediator

The main purpose of this study was to understand whether leaders in RHB can improve employees’ job satisfaction, and thus enhance their retention through servant leadership behavior? Further, to explore whether trust or self-actualization presented a moderating effect on servant leadership and retention, whether job satisfaction presented a mediating effect on servant leadership and retention? The object of this study was to conduct a comprehensive survey for the employees from RHB in Kaohsiung. A total of 151 on-line questionnaires sampling was used in the method and 149 effective ones were returned, and analysis was based on those samples. SPSS 18.0 Window Version was used in descriptive statistics analysis, reliability test, factor analysis, Pearson correlation analysis, hierarchical regression analysis. The results showed the following findings: 1. The staff of RHB (Relax, Health and Beauty Industry) perceived above the average level of servant leadership, job satisfaction, trust, self-actualization and retention 2. There were significant positive correlations among servant leadership and job satisfaction, trust, self-actualization and retention 3. Servant leadership was significantly positive related to retention; Servant leadership was significantly positive related to job satisfaction; Job satisfaction was significantly positive related to retention; There were significant moderating effects of trust and self-actualization on the relationship between servant leadership and retention;Through the mediating role of job satisfaction, servant leadership had significant influence on retention. Finally, the study provided some suggestions based on the findings above in order to be as the reference for RHB to plan retention policy and future research.
