Popis: | 101 This study evaluated the effects of auricular acupressure on waist, blood pressure, and autonomic nervous in vegetarian and nonvegetarian women. Sixty-one women were recruited in Taiwan. The study participants were divided into 2 groups: 31 vegetarian women (experimental group) and 30 nonvegetarian women (control group). Both groups received auricular acupressure treatment of the liver and spleen acupoints weekly for 8 weeks (3 times per day). Two points continued to press until the tenderness feeling and then stopped. The measurements of waist circumference, blood pressure, and heart rate variability (HRV) were recorded for both groups in the first week (pretest), fifth week (post-test 1), and ninth week (post-test 2). The results showed the following: (1) before intervention, the HF norm of the experimental group (vegetarian) is lower, but the LF norm is higher than that of the control group (nonvegetarian) (p < 0.05); (2) waist circumference of the control group in the first week compared with that in the fifth week was significantly different (p < 0.05); (3) the experimental group in the fifth week compared with that in the ninth week by systolic blood pressure was significantly different (p < 0.05); and (4) in the diastolic blood pressure of the control group, there is significant difference (p < 0.05) by the first week compared with that during the fifth week. Our findings suggest that vegetarians have a lower risk of cardiovascular disease than nonvegetarians; auricular acupressure has considerable influence on blood pressure. |
