This thesis is aimed at gear shifting strategy design for a micro electric vehicle (EV) equipped with two 2KW brushless direct current motors (BLDC) and a three-gears clutchless automatic manual transmission (CLAMT) developed by NPUST. The purpose of the gear shifting strategy design is to enhance the drivability and energy efficiency of the EV. For an automatic transmission, the gear shifting strategy determines the reasonable timing for the CLAMT to perform gear shifting automatically under various road conditions. The works of this thesis was carried out firstly by measuring the parameters of the studied vehicle, transmission, and the motors. Secondly, the collected data were analyzed to investigate the efficiency of the motors at each operation point and the driving force for each gear. Furthermore, in this step, an on-line road resistance estimation algorithm was build as the basis of the gear shifting strategy design. Finally, a gear shifting strategy which is adaptive to road load change was designed. A series of simulations and on road tests were carried out to verify the feasibility of the designed strategy. The results indicated that the strategy could make the CLAMT perform gear shifting precisely on a variety of road resistance conditions with high energy efficiency.
