The relationship between lifestyle and health-related quality of life in women with polycystic ovary syndrome

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common endocrinopathies in women of fertile age and affects up to 6–7% of this population. Except suffering from illness, woman with PCOS have to deal with a variety of pressure and misadjusted lifestyle due to disease which may result in symptoms under control and affect their quality of life. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship among demographic data, lifestyle, and health-related quality of life among women with polycystic ovary syndrome. A cross-sectional design and self-administered questionnaires was applied to this study. The women fertile aged between 20 and 45 year was recruited 94 women with PCOS at a medical center in southern Taiwan. Multiple regression analysis was implemented to analyze the data. The results showed as follows: (1) the difficult pregnancy of women with PCOS have better overall health-related quality of life; Married and difficult pregnancy of women with PCOS have better social relationships.(2) The diet and overall health-related quality of life, physical, environmental domains were positive correlation; the exercise and environment domain was positive correlation.(3) 1-2 related variables to predict health-related quality of life of women with PCOS, the infertility was significantly predictors in overall health-related quality of life, social domains; the diet was significantly predictors in overall health-related quality of life, physical, psychological, social domains; the exercise was significantly predictors in environment domain.(4) all variables to predict health-related quality of life of women with PCOS, the infertility was significantly predictors in overall health-related quality of life, physical, social domains; the diet was significantly predictors in overall health-related quality of life, physical, environmental domains. The findings showed the health-related quality of life among the women with PCOS affected by diet and infertility. In short, the study was intended to provide guidance for nursing intervention for women with PCOS.
