Due to performance improvements on hardware and powerful software, it makes mobile devices easy to operate and gain a lot of popularity. In view of this, game developers are focusing on mobile games development, so mobile devices become an important tool to execute games. To increase creative differences from other games, this paper develops a variety of games by a three-axis accelerometer and an electronic compass combined with augmented reality technology so to achieve a brand new game for mobile devices. In this paper, a video camera is used to capture the true picture for creating augmented reality environment; a triaxial accelerometer is used to detects the mobile device viewing game by the player's perspective; an electronic compass is used to detect the direction of the players facing a mobile device as showing angles to control game. Integrating these three parts mentioned above, players can take advantage of the body motion as a game character to manipulate the real world integrated with game objects to design augmented reality game. Experiments in this study prove that augmented reality games can be achieved by using a three-axis accelerometer and an electronic compass.
