Synthesis of the one-dimensional platinum single crystal nanowires application counter electrode of Dye-sensitized solar cell

A platinum nanodendrites (Pt NDs) structure constructed by a simple electrochemical deposition (ECD) method has been presented, and its utility for a counter electrode in the Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSCs) was demonstrated in this study. A three-electrodes configuration and PtH2Cl6 precursor were used in our ECD experiments, we controlled ECD voltage and scan-cycles as the parameters for the direct growth of Pt ND on the transparent conductivity oxide (TCO) glass at room temperature. Different ECD voltage controlled the and growth of the Pt NDs, the parameter of ECD scan-cycles shown great impact on the morphology and electrochemical catalytic activity of Pt NDs. Compared with generally dye-sensitized solar cells using the traditional E-gun sputtered Pt thin film as a counter electrode, our Pt NDs provided less Pt loading and higher transmittance property on the TCO glass. The photo-current conversion efficiency measured under 1.5 A.M. of Pt thin film and Pt NDs are 5.1 and 5.4%, respectively. The results suggested that our ECD growth of Pt NDs could be better than sputtered Pt thin film for the counter electrodes to achieve economical and better performance in DSSCs.
