Consumer's Perception and Preference of the Product Service Systems-An Example of E-books

| Popis: | 101 Sustainable design is not necessarily about new technologies, but about rethinking how to meet consumer''s needs without costly environmental and social impacts. Product-Service Systems (PSS) can be an effective function-based strategy that focuses on "satisfaction" as a product value instead of private ownership of physical products as a standard of well being that exists in many industrialized contexts. This study conducts the experiment with a questionnaire survey about PSS of publishing e-books downloaded from the online system as an example based on consumers’ general attitude, environmental conscious, price acceptability, usability and preference. Through the experimental design, a literature review is conducted and fifty subjects are chosen to review two types of e-books for the evaluation. Some statistical analyses are conducted for clarifying the correlation between evaluation categories and their respective factors. For example, the results show that acceptance of environmental sustainability of PSS is significantly influenced by user experience (usability), information content design, acceptable price, etc. Moreover, consumers highly perceive the environmental sustainability of PSS as consumers’ perception and preference of the e-book PSS are highly graded. The acceptable price for PSS of e-books is 30%~ 50% of hard copy while 30%~ 40% of original hardware price for renting e-book reader. The rank order for consumer preference to e-book attributes shows the environmental sustainability is the last while the information content is the highest, and followed by multimedia design, convenience for using theis system, ease and comfort of the interaction design, and the price of e-books. Eventually, this study provides a PSS evaluation framework to the design of e-books from the consumer’s perspective, and make a significant contribution to the environmental sustainability by designing e-book PSS which meets consumer needs. |
