The purpose of the research is to design a low voltage motor drive with high current drive for electric vehicles motor driving application. In the articles, we use copper rotor three-phase induction motor for electric vehicle as the power train in electric vehicles. The rotor resistor of copper rotor three-phase induction motor is lower than that of other motor, which cause the high current during the motor starts. Therefore, the rated current of the drive is designed up to 340A, and ultracapacitor should be added into motor drive in order to reduce the input current from the DC bus during the motor starts. In each phase of the inverter circuit, flyback converter is used to supply power into the gate driver circuits that can make the high side gate of the driving circuit more stable when the motor is running. In the motor’s load experimental platform, via testing drive’s output current at different loads and different speeds, the characteristics about the high current and low voltage of the drive are verified. In the last part of the experiment, the output and input power of the drive are recorded from the power analyzer, and the curve graphs of the efficiency and the power factor are drawn. Then, by the way the relationship between the AC output current and the DC input current is generalized, and then the magnitude of the DC input power of the drive is obtained.
