Application of Taguchi Method to Li-ion Battery Monitoring Systems

The main purpose of this thesis is to build up a lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery monitoring system platform. Before structure monitoring platform, using the Taguchi method to do experiments for the battery pack to be monitored. By doing experiments for the factors that may affect the battery discharge, thus know which the most significant factor affecting. Under the best conditions, making the discharge time improved effectively. The monitoring system platform connects LTC6802-2 which LINEAR Corporation produces and PIC18f8680 which Microchip Corporation produces, and takes Serial Peripheral Interface(SPI) and Controller Area Network Bus(CAN Bus) as a bridge to communicate. The monitoring system is mainly operated by picking up real-time data transmitted on the connecting web lines, which transmitted by RS-232 to VB.net monitoring interface, and stored data in ACCESS database. The users are able to get information about the condition of the battery on the interface, and confirm the current battery state of health. In addition to convenient for maintenance personnel to do testing and replacement, also be used as a data source to estimate state of charge. Taguchi and monitoring system improve battery discharge time effectively, and contribute to the best use of the battery.
